Stacey Papernick is an Organizer for the Ontario Nurses Association. A graduate in Labour Management Relations from the University of Toronto, Stacey was a Union Representative and Organizer for the Hotel Employees Restaurant Employees Union Local 75 from 1997 to 2003. At HERE she was a Union Representative working with members at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel and at the Novotel Toronto Centre. Stacey did internal committee building by working with the members to deal with day-to-day issues and grievances and to prepare for and win strikes. As well she did new organizing with residual units in the workplaces she serviced and unorganized strategic corporate targets related to the current HERE Local 75 membership. In her time at HERE, she was involved in creating and implementing a political action plan to gain influence for Hotel workers with Toronto City Council and building community and labour supporters for HERE campaigns. Stacey also represented HERE for six years as an Executive Board member at the Toronto and York Region labour council, where she chaired the Women’s Committee. As well for two years she chaired the Mayworks Festival (a Toronto festival dedicated to cultural workers and for working people to engage with the arts).
Prior to working full-time for HERE, Stacey was the Co-ordinator for the Metro Network for Social Justice, a community and labour coalition which had 250 member organizations from a multitude of sectors, who worked together on a variety of campaigns for economic and social justice for residents of Toronto. This included opposing welfare reform and fighting work for welfare programs and campaigning to increase the minimum wage as a key member of the Justice for Workers Coalition.
